STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - A soldier from Stevens Point received a Purple Heart after being injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Marine Corporal Kyle Sepeda was manning a machine gun turret when their vehicle was damaged by explosives. He suffered a concussion and other injuries during the blast.
Sepeda was deployed with Regimental Combat Team 6 as part of a supply convoy. The vehicle he was in was disabled until they detached the crippled trailer. He and team members had to unhook the trailer while under attack from small arms fire. Once they reached safety, Sepeda was hospitalized for a day to treat the injuries and observe him after receiving the concussion. He is back with his unit now.
