DECORAH, IA (UWSP) – The UW-Stevens Point softball team dropped two games to the Norse of Luther College Sunday afternoon, with both losses coming via the run rule.
The Norse jumped all over UWSP in the first inning, plating four runs, on their way to an 8-0 victory.
The Pointers were unable to get anything going offensively as Luther continued to push runs across the plate. Jordon Schreiner (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna), Katie Krueger (Plover, WI/SPASH) and Morgan Koth (Cedarburg, WI/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) were the only Pointers to tally hits in the contest.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Norse' bats broke the game open, scoring in each of the next four innings, including a six run sixth inning to take game two 11-1. The Pointers showed a little life in the bottom of the sixth as Schreiner scored on a sacrifice fly by Alicia Hahnemann (Appleton, WI/West), but that was all UWSP would get as Luther's defense was solid all afternoon.
Sam Raddant (Shawano, WI/Shawano) led the Pointers from the plate in game two, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
UWSP (17-11, 3-3 WIAC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 24 as it hosts UW-Whitewater for two games against the Warhawks. First pitch set for 3 p.m.
