Don't use old child car seats, recycle them Saturday

UNDATED (WSAU) -  Some things shouldn’t be passed down from one child to the next. Your car seat is probably one of them.

EMS Specialist Kathy Bruckbauer from Portage County says the older car seats tend to crack and break, making them unsafe for your children. She suggests bringing them in and not risking your kid’s safety. “Car seat recycling day is April 20th at the Village of Plover Fire Department, so if you have any old car seats, bring them over. We’ll take them down and recycle them for you.”

If the car seat is over six years old, has been recalled by the manufacturer, has ever been in a crash, or has missing or broken parts, you should just recycle it and not use it.

Many communities are collecting old car seats today. You can also take them to the Judging Pavilion at Marathon Park in Wausau or the Marshfield Fire Departments between 9:00 a.m. and noon.
