MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  The State of Wisconsin Tornado Drill scheduled for Thursday, April 18 has been postponed one day.

State Emergency Management Director Tod Pritchard says that’s because there is a slight chance of real weather problems in southeastern Wisconsin during the time of the originally scheduled test. “We have a chance of severe weather happening, especially in the southern part of the state for Thursday, so we thought it was prudent to hold off on the drill. We didn’t want there to be confusion between a drill and actual real events going on.”

The new time for the statewide tornado drill is Friday, April 19 with a statewide tornado watch issued at 1:00 p.m. and a statewide tornado warning issued at 1:45 p.m. When the drill happens, you will hear notification tones and official messages on your radios and televisions.

Again, Friday’s sirens will only be a test of the system.

Communities along the Minnesota border may hear distant sirens Thursday, as the Minnesota drill will proceed Thursday as scheduled.
