WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) - Officials in Marathon County are saying more about why the jail administrator stepped down.
Chief Deputy Scott Parks says Robert Dickman tendered his resignation on Wednesday. "He elected that it's time in his career to resign and move on to something else." When asked if the incident at the jail was the cause, Parks says it may have played a part, but that Dickman had been talking about it for a while.
For now, the county's juvenile secure facility superintendent Paul Mergendahl is in charge until a permanent replacement is named.
Inmate Frederic Morris assaulted officers Julie Christensen and Denney Woodward during the lunch period on March 27th. Christensen remains hospitalized. After that incident, a special task force was created to examine jail security and make recommendations for the future appointed sheriff.
Dickman has been with the department since 1988. He will receive a severance package worth about 1/4th of his nearly $85,000 salary. Dickman has not been available for comment.
