Mother of three kids who died in house fire has $500K cash bond set

MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - A half-million-dollar cash bond was set Wednesday for a woman charged in a house fire that killed three of her children who were left home alone in West Allis.

24-year-old Angelica Belen made her first Milwaukee County Circuit Court appearance on three felony counts of child neglect causing death.

Belen is due back in court a week from Thursday for a preliminary hearing, which will decide if there’s enough evidence to put her on trial.

Prosecutors said Belen locked her four-year-old twin boys and their five-year-old sister in a bedroom while she went to work last Thursday, because she didn’t have a baby-sitter lined up.

Belen is also awaiting trial on six misdemeanor neglect charges after she allegedly went into a store, left three kids in her car, and the twin boys left the vehicle and almost got run over in a parking lot.

That incident was reported in mid-March. A final pre-trial hearing in that case is set for early May.
