Fire investigation continues

STEVENS POINT, WI  (WSAU)  -  Stevens Point officials are still trying to figure out what started a Thursday morning fire that destroyed a home.

The house in the 1100 block of Soo Marie Avenue near College Avenue was totally destroyed early Thursday.  Firefighters were there all day digging through the rubble Thursday and Friday.

State investigators are on the scene as well, along with the State Fire Marshal's office.  Stevens Point Fire Chief Tracey Kujawa couldn't comment on the nature of the investigation Friday.

The fire started in the garage of the home very early in the morning and spread to the rest of the house.  The inside was damaged so badly the roof collapsed.  There were also some cars damaged by the blaze.

The fire was so hot, police had to evacuate neighboring homes as a precaution.

The occupants were able to get out safely.
