SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - The director of the Sheboygan County Humane Society is accused of falsely identifying herself as a veterinary technician, to get medicines for her relatives’ animals.
59-year-old Eilene Ribbens of Elkhart Lake is free on a signature bond, after appearing in court Wednesday on a felony charge of possessing illegal prescriptions and a misdemeanor count of obtaining drugs by fraud.
She’s due back in court next Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
According to prosecutors, a Humane Society veterinarian caught Ribbens ordering large amounts of prescriptions from a pharmacy in New Jersey last year. The medicines were Tramadol and potassium bromide – and officials say they remain unaccounted for.
Another employee quoted Ribbens as saying she used her position to buy the drugs for relatives who couldn’t afford medicines for their animals – and she was doing it, “out of the kindness of her heart.”
