SHAWANO, Wisc (WSAU) A Shawano County man will not face a homicide trial for killing his father last February because he's mentally ill and didn't know right from wrong. A judge ruled that 21-year-old Joshua Johnson of Wittenberg suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. His lawyer said Johnson would not have been able to assist in his defense.
Two doctors told the court that Johnson was mentally ill. He claimed to hear voices the night he stabbed Donald Johnson to death.
He's being held in the Shawano County jail until the court determines a permanent treatment plan. Prosecutors and the defense will recommend that he be committed to a state mental health facility.
He'll be back in court December 6th.
