WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU) An armed man is still on the run after attempting to sexually assault a Wisconsin Rapids woman at gunpoint Wednesday night.
The victim’s daughter called 9-1-1 just after nine-o-clock to get help, saying 31-year-old suspect Matthew Lee Fosnot was threatening her mother with a gun at their 18th Avenue home. Police Chief Kurt Heuer says the Wisconsin Rapids Special Response Team secured the house, but Fosnot was no longer there. He is believed to be armed and driving a 1987 grey Toyota pickup with several ham radio antennas. Fosnot may be in the area or he may be in the Portage area. Anyone with information about Matthew Lee Fosnot is encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately and not to attempt contact with him.

Wood County Dispatch received a 911 call in the City of Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 shortly after 9:00 PM from a residence on 18th Avenue South. An female caller reported an attempted assault on her mother by a male acquaintance. Further information indicated the male subject may be armed and a threat to himself and others including law enforcement. Statements made by the male subject previously indicated he was anti law enforcement and would “die in a gun battle.” The suspect has been identified as Matthew Lee Fosnot, age 31 of Wisconsin Rapids.
A secure perimeter was established by Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, and Wisconsin Rapids Fire Tactical EMS at the 18th Avenue location. Attempts to make contact with Fosnot were unsuccessful. Suspect description and vehicle information was disseminated to law enforcement.
Wisconsin Rapids Special Response Team cleared the residence shortly after midnight and did not locate Fosnot. It is now believed Fosnot was able to leave the area prior to law enforcements arrival. Fosnot has connections to Columbia County and we are working with law enforcement to make contact and assist in locating him.

Based on statements made, Fosnot should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with any information should contact Wood County Dispatch at 715-421-8702 or your local law enforcement agency. Fosnot is wanted for Armed Attempted Sexual Assault.
