A Wisconsin Rapids police officer is expected to get out of the hospital tomorrow. Wood County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Shawn Becker says Wisconsin Rapids officer Douglas Kyle Vanberkel was injured Saturday night while enroute to assist a Nekoosa officer.

The squad car was extensively damaged when it hit a stone wall in front of a 1st Avenue residence near Gardner Street. Vanberkel was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment.
