Eric Church co-wrote his #1 hits "Springsteen" and "Drink in My Hand," so you'd think he'd have the lyrics down cold. That wasn't the case during a recent televised appearance on the Grand Ole Opry though. Before he went onstage, Opry manager Pete Fisher joked with Eric to not forget the words to those songs.
Eric tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel , "You get on the frigging Opry on television and you forget the only two number ones that you have."
Lucky for Eric, the Opry wasn't broadcasting live that night, so he had a second shot to get the lyrics right on the later show. The Opry producers gave him a little help too.
"I didn't even know the Grand Ole Opry had a teleprompter," Eric says. "I just started 'Drink in My Hand' and all of a sudden the words to the song appear in the back of the theater. I about lost it again because it was so funny."
