WAUSAU, Wisc (WSAU) A major leak has been found in a Wausau water pipeline on the city's west side. WAOW-TV says water works has been losing up to a million gallons a day for almost a year.
A leak inspection company was brought in earlier this month, and located the problem area near 14th Avenue. The water had been flowing into Bos Creek. That pipeline has now been shut off. It will take about a week to repair. Work is expected to begin next Friday.
Wausau has been losing about 27-percent of the water that the water-works pumped into the pipe system. The number was so high it was likely that there was an underground leak. Some of the city's pipes are more than 120 years old.
