WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Police have connected a group of people to several crimes. We now know the gun shop robberies in Wausau and Tomahawk are linked to people known to use and sell drugs including methamphetamines. 21-year old Richi Vue of Saint Paul is jailed on the Weston homicide charge. 24-year-old Christian Peterson of Wausau was killed confronting Eau Claire Police two weeks ago tomorrow.
Wausau Police Chief Jeffrey Hardel says they’ve recovered three weapons from the Wausau burglary, a few more from the Tomahawk burglary, and more. "We've also recovered additional weapons that we now are finding out were stolen from residential burglaries in other locations, so we've been in contact with those jurisdictions getting the reports from their agencies and coresponding that with the serial number and the description of the stolen weapon so we can place them."
Hardel says the other recovered weapons are from burglaries in the Eau Claire and Minneapolis areas.
He says more than 40 stolen guns are still out there. "We're making a plea to the community that if they know anything, please contact local law enforcement agencies to let us know because we really do need to get all of these weapons off the streets.”
Hardel says anyone with information about stolen guns, or new guns being sold or traded cheap should contact local authorities immediately.
