MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) A jury finds a former member of the Milwaukee County Veterans Service Commission guilty of skimming more than 51 thousand dollars from bank deposits and making unapproved withdrawals from bank accounts for the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Sixty-two year old Kevin Kavanaugh of Cudahy was appointed to the commission by Governor Scott Walker when he was serving as county executive. The money taken was donated to help veterans and their families.

Kavanaugh’s defense had argued he was only a bad bookkeeper. He was charged as part of a secret investigation into Walker’s office, but Walker has never been charged with any wrongdoing.
