MERRILL, WI (WSAU) -

Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers was in Rothschild and Merrill yesterday, where he was able to observe some of the successes of area educators. Evers says there have been many changes in Wisconsin education with new standards and testing, and budget issues.  Evers said, "The challenge right now is to connect the dots.  There are so many initiatives, the new standards, developing the new assessment system, the new accountability system.  Clearly, budgetary issues are facing our school districts, so it's A: Remain positive and keeping our eye on the prize which is increasing student achievement but also making sure all of these initiatives we're undertaking here and across the state of Wisconsin are connected and people see value in them, and really raise student achievement."

Evers is in Hurley today for the Rural Advisory Committee Meeting.
