WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) - Travelers between Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point have been waiting all summer for this. Highway 66 between Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point is scheduled to re-open sometime Friday.
The road that used to be County Highway P along the west bank of the Wisconsin River became a state highway when Highway 10 bypassed Stevens Point.
Department of Transportation officials wanted to upgrade the deteriorating roadway, add rumble strips for safety, and replace four bridges. The project began last spring and cost five-point-one million dollars.
