WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Marathon County prosecutors will try again to hold a preliminary hearing against a man accused of causing a woman’s death in a February crash.
21-year-old Tyler Deal of La Crosse is scheduled for a preliminary hearing this morning. He's charged with homicide by drunken driving, homicide by negligent driving and two drug-related charges. That hearing had to be delayed in September after a witness in the case went missing. Nicole Kopp was served a subpoena September 6th but never made it to the hearing.
The complaint says Deal had a point-09 blood alcohol content and was under the influence of marijuana February 26th when he crashed into a utility pole along Highway V near Spencer. 22-year-old Paige Metz of Loyal was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deal remains free on a 20-thousand dollar cash bond. He could spend 35 years in prison if convicted.
