Wildfire risk increases Monday through parts of Wisconsin

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Forecasters say the risk of wildfires will increase in some parts of Wisconsin Monday, as a massive high pressure system brings windier and warmer conditions.

Highs Monday are expected near 60 under cloudy to partly cloudy skies. That’s after some places never got out of the 40’s Sunday.

The National Weather Service says the biggest risk of grass and brush fires will be from late Monday morning until early this evening, when humidities drop to as low as 25 percent in some places.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 30 to 35 miles an hour in all of Wisconsin, thus boosting the danger for wildfires that much further.

As of early Monday morning, the DNR said the fire danger was high in over three-fourths of Wisconsin. Northeast areas Ashland County to Waupaca and Door counties had moderate fire dangers.

Also, a gale warning is in effect through this evening for Lake Michigan north of Port Washington. And a small craft advisory is posted south of Port Washington.

Monday night, a cold front is expected to bring some rain to northern Wisconsin – and more rain is forecast statewide for Tuesday.
