CUSTER, WI (WSAU) - Eight people were injured in a crash east of Stevens Point Sunday afternoon on Highway 10.
The crash happened at 3:16 p.m. when a full-sized SUV towing a camper trailer overturned in the median near Custer. There were eight occupants inside the SUV. An adult female and a juvenile were flown from the scene to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The remaining occupants were taken to Saint Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point. Several emergency units including two medical helicopters were at the scene. Portage County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Jacob Wills says the driver lost control of the vehicle, over-corrected, and then flipped into the median of the highway. He says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Names of the victims have not been released, and their present medical condition is unknown.
Traffic was backed up for over three hours
