WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Marathon County still has a space problem. The most obvious example is in the county jail. Marathon County’s Executive Committee is in the early stages of figuring out what to do. During Wednesday’s meeting, Jail Administrator Bob Dickman told members they are ten inmates over what the jail is designed to hold, and several inmates are housed out-of-county, which is expensive. The Marathon County Jail is designed to hold 301 inmates.
If expansion of the jail is not approved, expect a proposal for major improvements to the existing space. There are some other departments with space issues in the courthouse as well.
