WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Today is International Walk To School Day, and it’s a good opportunity to teach kids about safely getting to school on foot. Michelle Armstrong is with Safe Kids Wausau Area. She says it is one thing to tell your children about pedestrian safety, but this is a good chance to show them.
Armstrong says Safe Kids helps schools with materials for teaching pedestrian safety. They also have materials for parents to use with their families.
About sixty-one children get injured every day severely enough to seek medical attention, and more than 500 kids under 14 die every year. Most of those injuries and deaths are from crossing roadways.
