Taylor Swift is always candid about her personal life in her music, but you won't find her spilling the beans on her involvement with Conor Kennedy in interviews though. Taylor appeared on ABC's Good Morning America Monday morning and explained why she's tight-lipped when it comes to her love life.

"I feel like you can share enough of your life in your music to still let people know what you're going through and how you feel and still develop a connection without talking too many details," Taylor explains.

Taylor famously refuses to reveal who those songs are about, though, and that also goes for her song "Dear John" from Speak Now . Her former love interest, John Mayer , recently told Rolling Stone he was humiliated by the song and said it was "a really lousy thing for Taylor to do.

Taylor tells Glamour , "How presumptuous. I never disclose who my songs are about."  Taylor didn't actually read John's comments. She says, "I know it wasn't good, so I don’t want to know. I put a high priority on staying happy and I know what I can't handle."

Even so, Taylor goes on to say she's not an "egomaniac" who doesn't want to hear anything negative about herself.  "I do keep myself in check," Taylor explains. "But I've never developed that thick a skin. So I just kind of live a life, and I let all the gossip live somewhere else."

Though she's very guarded with details on her personal life, Taylor still lights up when she gets awards or hears compliments on her music. She's even been mocked on Saturday Night Live for getting too excited about her successes, but Taylor admits she just can't take all the accolades casually.

When asked why she's not "blasé" about all the good things coming her way, Taylor tells Good Morning America , "I try to be sometimes, but it's just hard when you get excited about stuff."

Taylor's new album, Red , comes out October 22. She's releasing the title song to iTunes this week following the previously released singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "Begin Again."

Taylor also tweeted from Paris over the weekend while filming a new music video there.
