RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) - Oneida County’s Sheriff is stepping down. Jeff Hoffman announced his retirement yesterday after 38 years with the department. Hoffman was appointed to Sheriff duties in 2005 and was then elected twice.
Hoffman’s elected term isn’t scheduled to end until January 2015. Chief Deputy John Sweeney will perform all Sheriff’s duties until Governor Scott Walker appoints someone to complete the term.
Law enforcement runs in the family. His father was once Sheriff in Langlade County.
Hoffman says he plans to spend more time with his family in retirement, and maybe find a golf course or two.
