Marathon City schools to receive grant Tuesday night

by

MARATHON CITY, WI (WSAU) -  An area school is getting some extra cash tonight thanks to a new grant program from an agribusiness supplier. Monsanto funds a program called America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education. Local Monsanto representative Greg Rueden says he likes handing out the big checks in his service area. He gets to present a $10,000 check to Marathon City Schools during halftime at the basketball game Tuesday night.

Rueden says the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education grant program still has funds available. Just get an application form from your Monsanto rep and send it in.  Ruden says the grant program goes beyond schools to help support worthwhile efforts in rural America.  "I encourage production agriculture people to be aware of the program and pick up an application and send it in.  It's not just schools, it  goes all the way from fire departments and FFA's and 4-H, other organizations.  It's a good program.”

The Monsanto fund is putting 2.3 million dollars into the program across 39 states. There are four major initiatives including a traveling exhibit and a National Farm Mom of The Year award. So far, Wisconsin has had 12 winners.  Owen-Withee was a runner up.

The winners in Wisconsin are (in no particular order):

Winning Wis. school districts in no particular order:   Cadott Community School District, Marathon City School District, Gillett School District, Sparta Area School District, Tri-County Area School District, New London School District, Lancaster Community School District, Monticello School District, Lake Geneva-Genoa City UHS School District, Cornell School District, Chilton School District, Wrightstown Community School District
