McCarthy Will Stick With Crosby

GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy didn’t even wait for the Mason Crosby question to be asked, when he said he would stick with his troubled kicker. Crosby missed three field goal attempts – two that counted – during Green Bay’s win at Detroit.

Crosby kicked a 50-yarder wide right in perfect indoor conditions at the end of the first half. But the Lions’ called a time-out just before the snap, so Crosby got another chance – and he missed it wide left. He also missed a 38-yarder.

At the end of the game, the Packers decided to see if Crosby could boost his confidence – and he hit a 39-yarder with 19 seconds left. McCarthy said afterward, quote, “We will not blink as far as our commitment to him.”

Crosby has now made 11-of-18 field goals this year – the second-worst among N-F-L kickers. He said he booted the ball well during warm-ups, but he was off-line during the game. Crosby also said he doesn’t even think about the possibility that the Packers will bring in somebody to replace or compete with him.
