IRMA, WI (WSAU) - Remember that Hunters Safety class lesson about treating every gun as if it’s loaded? An Irma man had a dangerous and unpleasant reminder Friday night.
Lincoln County deputies went to a home in the Town of Birch where a 48-year-old man accidentally shot himself while preparing his weapons for hunting season. He was working on a 9 millimeter handgun when it discharged and shot him in the hand. The man told deputies he didn’t know there was a round in the chamber. Investigators say he was taken to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk for treatment. His name has not been released and no charges will be filed against him.
