Absentee ballots continue to pour in for recall election

MADISON (WRN) The number of Wisconsinites voting absentee in the upcoming recall elections continues to grow. As of Friday afternoon, the state Government Accountability Board says over 113,000 absentee ballots had been issued by local election officials for the June 5th recall elections. The number is based on reports from the Statewide Voter Registration System, which about one-third of the municipalities in Wisconsin use to track absentee balloting.

In comparison, about 68,000 absentee ballots were issued for the recall primaries earlier this month, while about 230,000 were issued in the November election in 2010.

The GAB says about 75 percent of absentee ballots requested are filled out at the clerk’s office ahead of time, while the other 25-percent are mailed in. Voters are not required to give a reason why they would like to vote before the actual election date.

Anyone wishing to cast an absentee ballot in their local clerk’s office has until 5 p.m. on June First to do so.
