UNDATED (WSAU) – If you are cleaning up any damage from last night's storms, you should beware of “fly-by-night” contractors who may try to take advantage of your situation.
“We want people to be savvy consumers,” said Wisconsin Better Business Bureau spokeswoman Susan Bach.
Consumers should ask for and check contractors' references, compare bids and beware of price gouging. You can also check a company's rating with the BBB by calling 1-800-273-1002 or on the bureau's Web site.
You should try to make temporary repairs then take time to hire ethical business contractors, Bach said. She also says reputable contractors will not ask you to pay the entire fee up front. Many often ask you to put half down and pay the other half after the job is completed.
