WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) On one of the hottest days of the year, some Wausau leaders took a tour of the city's three municipal swimming pools. Members of the Parks and Recreation Committee visited the pools - which were very crowded yesterday afternoon - before holding their regular meeting at City Hall.
All three of the pools need major repairs. Rebuilding them would cost $6-million. The city council passed a resolution in favor of the project, but never funded it. The pools have undergone smaller repairs - including patching to stop leaking water - before the start of past summer seasons. The parks committee says it will revisit the issue this year.
The city has reduced the costs of using the pools to boost attendance. It costs $1 to swim, and 50-cents after 6pm.
