MADISON, WI (WSAU) Minnesota State scored the first goal and held the lead for more than a period, but when the Wisconsin women’s team got going, they took over the action at the Kohl Center.
The Badgers scored five goals in a row to take a 5-2 win. Brittany Ammerman had two goals and two assists as Wisconsin blew the last place Mavericks off the ice.
Wisconsin’s record improves to 25-2-2 overall, including 19-2-2-1 in WCHA play. Wisconsin fired 47 shots on goal in the easy win. Brooke Ammerman, Madison Packer and Hilary Knight also scored goals for Wisconsin.
The Badgers go for a sweep on the home ice tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Wisconsin men’s hockey team avoided a shutout loss when freshman Brendan Woods scored with just over two minutes left. It was the Badgers’ last gasp in a 5-1 lopsided loss to St. Cloud State Friday night.
The Huskies scored three times on five power players as Wisconsin’s record fell to 12-13-2, including 7-12-2 in WCHA competition. St. Cloud State scored less than five minutes in and never trailed.
The Badgers go for the split on the Kohl Center ice tonight.
