Ambulance contract passes Portage County Board Tuesday

by

STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -  It’s done. Portage County approved an agreement late Tuesday with the Village of Amherst and the City of Stevens Point to operate the County’s ambulance service for the next three years.

This contract increases 2013 pay to cover operating expenses incurred by both fire departments. Amherst will be paid $289,665 next year, which allows for three staff members to have health insurance. The City of Stevens Point responds to most county-wide calls, and will get $1,800,750 for next year. Both municipalities will receive a three percent increase in each new year of the contract. Portage County has a different arrangement than many surrounding communities. The county owns the ambulances and pays municipal fire departments in Stevens Point and Amherst to operate them. This new contract starts January 1st. and expires December 31st 2015.

You can find out more details about the contract. We have previous stories and the board documents in our archive at WSAU.com.
