WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - A holiday fundraising tradition exceeded their goal. The 16th annual Festival of Trees raised $158,000 in support of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Kalynn Pempek is the Executive Director for Aspirus Health Foundation and Volunteer Services. She says the event at Stoney Creek Inn just after Thanksgiving was well attended. "Around 4,000 people attended this year to visit during the general hours to view, I think, about 105 items this year. Those could be anything from Christmas trees to wreaths to centerpieces."
She says the sales and auctions passed their goal by eight thousand dollars, and has been set aside for a specific purpose. "Our gross fundraising goal was $150,000 and we exceeded that goal because of the generous support of our entire community. We raised $158,000 dollars, and that funding will help support the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services program, specifically to help us fund what we call the community care bedrooms at our Hospice House."
The festival featured more than 100 holiday trees, wreaths and specialty items. Pempek says they are especially grateful knowing that there are many fundraisers, and the community has continued to help them.
