Hubble telescope provides new "baby pictures" of the universe

UNDATED (WTVB) - The Hubble Telescope is reaching back into time, way back. Astronomers using the scope have discovered seven galaxies which formed a relatively short time after the birth of the universe more than 13 and a half billion years ago.

ASA associate administrator for science John Grunsfeld describes the images as "baby pictures of the universe." Grunsfeld told reporters Wednesday at Cape Canaveral that the early galaxies "represent the building blocks of present-day galaxies." This discovery could help scientists figure out what happened following the "dark ages." That is a period of time approximately 200 million years after the Big Bang explosion.
