WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) The Marathon County Board of Supervisors is delaying a vote on jail expansion. The board considered several proposals – all would take years to complete.
The project that had the most support would have cost $70-million dollars. It called for demolishing part of the existing jail, acquiring more property next to the jail, and building a new wing. The county has considered other options that would create a separate office building for some departments that don’t require the additional security of being within the courthouse.
Some board members said they were concerned that data on property tax increases because of the project haven’t been calculated yet.
A vote on the project is on hold until at last February.
