Wisconsin Valley Lutheran reopened Monday

MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) -  It’s back to school time for students at Wisconsin Valley Lutheran High School at Mosinee. They had an unplanned week off after a water line broke December 1st, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to the building, furnishing, teaching materials, and computers.

Jamie Wehrs is an administrative assistant at the school.  She says a lot of volunteers and contractors made the first day back possible.  "We started out this morning just praising God that we're all back together, that we were able to get our facility back to being open this week, and we are more than pleased with all of the contractors that put in some long hours to get us open.  We only had to miss out a week, and the kids are really excited to be back."

Wehrs says there’s still some work to do in some rooms like painting and baseboard replacements, but all of the rooms are open and functional.

She says many of the damaged items are being replaced.  A desk was one of the items that arrived Monday.  Wehrs says they will be ordering the rest of the needed items by the end of the week.

Wehrs says the combination of insurance, the families, and a generous community will cover most of the water damage and replacement costs.  Some people have donated towards the cost of the school's insurance deductable.  She says others have called to ask if there are specific things the school needs

The kids and their families were a big part of cleaning out rooms and putting things back in place before reopening Monday.
