Stevens Point's mayor is closing his downtown business

STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -  Stevens Point’s mayor is closing his downtown business.

Andrew Halverson started Andrew’s Limited featuring distinctive mens clothing about ten years ago. Halverson says “The recession and our inability to compete in an ever changing market leave us no choice but to make this tough decision.”

He says online sales, different dress habits, and new local chain store competitors positioned Andrew’s as a small business unable to keep up. Halverson says ““It is very difficult to come to grips with the fact that a dream of yours is no longer a reality”

The closing date has not been announced. Halverson says they will be discounting their remaining stock and selling items on a first-come first-serve basis.

Halverson has employees who are in charge of day-to-day operations since 2007, when he became Stevens Point’s mayor.
