WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Tomorrow Wausau's Housing Task Force will debate whether city property owners will need a license to become landlords. The task force has been debating ways to crack down on problem landlords -- a licensing program is one of their proposals.
Earlier this year the City Council identified blight and quality-of-life issues as one of the top concerns of city residents.
The goal of a licensing program would be to force improvements to run-down properties and to make landlords more accountable when they rent to problem-tenants.
The city has already put local ordinances into place where landlords can be fined for having nuisance properties. City inspectors have also been more active at rental properties in the last year.
