Some highways in central Wisconsin are ice covered and hazardous during the overnight hours. As of 3:00 a.m. Interstate 39 had several cars in the ditch near the Rib Mountain Drive exit in the southbound lanes, as the road went from good condition to icy as drivers crested the hill before the off ramp.
Wisconsin State Patrol officials say most of the icy roads were from that point south, and also to the east. Most roads in the city of Wausau were in good to fair condition at that time. Many rural roads were reported to be dangerous.
Authorities advise drivers to beware of rapidly changing conditions until the sun comes up and the salt is applied.
