Pointer Weekend Update

SUPERIOR, WI (WSAU) The UWSP mens basketball team won their WIAC opener on Saturday with a 79-68 win at UW-Superior. The Pointers were down by three at halftime. They trailed until midway through the second half when Wisconsin Rapids native Joe Ritchay knocked dwon a three pointer to take the lead.

Tyler Tillema led the Pointers with a career high 34 points. Rapids native Clayton Heuer added 16.

UWSP hads to Oshkosh on Wednesday


The Pointer womens basketball team dropped their conference opener at Superior 70-65. It was the first time the Yellowjackets had beaten the Pointers since 1995.

Brooke Allen led UWSP with 21 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs. Liz Althoff and Sam Barber had 14 & 12.

The Pointer women will host Oshkosh on Wednesday.


The UWSP men's hockey team beat Eau Claire  4-3 in overtime Saturday night to snap the Blugolds 11 game home winning streak.

Jon Bockman had the game winner giving the Pointers a weekend split. Brandon Jaeger had 29 saves for Point.

The Pointers return home this weekend for a 2 game series with UW-Stout Friday & Saturday.


The Pointer womens hockey team regained sole possession of first place in the NCAC with a Saturday afternoon win at UW-River Falls 5-4.

Leah Gefroh had two goals for UWSP.Janna Beilke-Skoug recorded 38 saves.

The Pointers return to action Friday and Saturday in Duluth against St. Scholastica.
