Walker Administration urges stores to call police if petition-gatherers won't leave

UNDATED (WSAU) Leave the shoppers alone. That’s basically what the State Republican Party is telling Democrats and others who planned to circulate Walker recall petitions near shopping malls on this Black Friday.

Lots of folks are off work, so they can take advantage of the Day-after-Thanksgiving bargains that have been offered since as early as nine last night. In a statement, the G-O-P’s Nicole Larson said she doubted that stores would want to be associated with a quote, “partisan ploy.” The Republicans said businesses should call the police if petition circulators don’t leave their properties on request. The G-O-P also asks shoppers to report any problems on the party’s “Recall Integrity Center” Web site.

Democrats had planned to set up petitioners near malls and park-and-ride facilities today. The Democrats had not responded by late morning to the G-O-P’s statement. Recall petition drives are underway against Governor Scott Walker, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, Senate G-O-P leader Scott Fitzgerald, and Republican Senators Van Wanggaard, Terry Moulton, and Pam Galloway.
