BREAKING: Wisconsin Assembly Passes Budget Without Debate 55-42

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - In an unusual move, the Wisconsin Assembly passed the proposed two-year state budget without much of a debate. The abrupt vote was 55-42. Preps take first swing toward state

The WIAA Boys State Golf Tournament opened Tuesday with Regional meets around the state.  In Division 1, Green Bay Preble hosted a regional at Royal Scot.  The De Pere Redbirds captured their first regional title with a sizzling 296 total, an average of 74 per player.  Preble finished second, 11 strokes behind, led by meet medalist Tom Boockmeier with a 2 under par 70.  Green Bay Southwest finished third at 311 and Bay Port at 313 also advanced to next week's Sectional at Reid Golf Course in Appleton.  Rounding out that Sectional field will be the regional winners from the Ridges Golf Club at Wisconsin Rapids.  Stevens Point won the team title with a 312, Appleton East finished at 324, Wisconsin Rapids had 328 and Appleton North tied Appleton West at 331 but the Lightning advanced in a playoff.  Alex Ly of Appleton West was medalist with a 75.    In Division 2, the Fox Valley Golf Club hosted a Regional won by Appleton Xavier with a score of 327, Berlin, Winneconne and Ripon also advanced.   Jarrett Simonsen of Wautoma was medalist with a 75.  The Freedom Regional at the Brown County Golf Course was won by Green Bay Notre Dame with a score of 312, led by medalist Joe Martin with 75.  Oconto Falls finished a distant 32 strokes back in second, followed by Marinette and Northland Pines which defeated Freedom in a playoff.  The top 2 teams from each sectional along with the two highest scoring individuals not on a qualifying team, advance to the state golf meet at University Ridge in Madison June 6 and 7.
