Los Angeles, CA (WHBL) - The Milwaukee Brewers ended a string of close road losses with a 2-to-1 victory over the Dodgers in Los Angeles last night. The Brewers were 0-and-5 in one-run games away from Miller Park, and 0-and-7 in road contests decided by two runs or less. Shaun Marcum won his fifth straight decision. He went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Marcum is now 5-and-1. John Axford threw a perfect ninth inning for his ninth save in 11 opportunities. Jon Garland gave up two runs in six innings for the loss. He’s now 1-and-3. Brewers’ center-fielder Carlos Gomez robbed Juan Uribe of a homer in the second inning, making a leaping catch over the wall. Dodgers’ left-fielder Jay Gibbons made his own circus catch in the third. He smashed into the wall just after grabbing a long drive by Rickie Weeks. The Brewers won despite leaving 14 men on base and going 2-for-14 with runners-in-scoring position. Weeks and Prince Fielder had R-B-I singles that provided all of Milwaukee’s scoring. The Dodgers went 0-for-8 with runners-in-scoring-position. Matt Kemp drove in L-A’s only run with a sacrifice fly. The Dodgers have lost three straight, and they ended a four-game winning streak against Milwaukee. The Brewers have won four straight. They’re 7-and-2 since losing seven-in-a-row. Milwaukee would get back to .500 with a victory tonight in the finale of this short two-game series. Left-hander Randy Wolf faces Dodgers’ right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
