NEW AUBURN, WI (WTAQ) - A 24-year-old rural Bloomer woman was killed overnight in a fiery traffic crash in northwest Wisconsin.
Chippewa County authorities said the woman was driving a car at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a semi-truck.
The car then veered into a median where it struck a tree and started on fire.
The truck driver and a passer-by tried to pull the woman from her burning car, but could not do so.
The crash happened about 1:45 this morning in the southbound lanes of the Highway 53 expressway south of New Auburn.
The trucker was not injured, and his vehicle had only minor damage. The woman died at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.
