MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) – An Army medic from Marshfield who was killed in Afghanistan last weekend is a step closer to his final resting place.
The Army returned Staff Sergeant Joseph Altmann’s body to the U-S yesterday. Altmann’s family, including his parents, his wife and her parents, and a sister and brother, helped welcome the body home during an emotional transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
Funeral arrangements are still pending at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Columbus Catholic high school, where Altmann graduated.
Altmann was killed by small arms fire in Kunar province no Christmas Day. He was 27.
Altmann was scheduled to return from his current tour early next year. Relatives say he and his wife planned to move to Colorado Springs to start a family.
