WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Work to repair the damaged ice rink at Marathon Park is about three-quarters finished.
Assistant parks director Peter Knotek says Arena Systems of Minneapolis has been working for a few weeks to repair a broken coolant system that hadn't been operating correctly for the last several years. The brine-based system is the mechanism for actually forming ice in the arena, something that the parks department was having a harder and harder time doing with a series of leaks and pump issues.
The repairs are scheduled to completed before next Thursday when the Multipurpose Building is needed for the Artrageous Weekend's Art in the Park celebration. Knotek says Arena should have testing of the system done by then.
The cost of the project came in at $47,000.
