WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - The county board has approved 55-thousand dollars in repairs to the pump system at Marathon Park's ice arenas.

The repairs are needed to fix leaks in a pair of headers that direct coolant under the rink and actually form the ice. Parks director Bill Duncanson says the problem has existed for several years but got progressively worse until this winter when they lost 8-thousand dollars of coolant to leakage.

The money to pay for those repairs will come from a number of capital projects that went under budget last year. Duncanson says the 55-thousand is a small price to pay compared to all the money the rinks generate in the winter for the Midwest Freeze and the Badger State Winter Games.

Work is expected to be completed before hockey season starts in the fall.
