What Have You Done Lately?

by Tom King

Sometimes I hate the internet. Oh sure it's great to have so much information at your fingertips 24 hours a day. But with that constant availability is also the threat of reading something so nonsensical that you immediatly feel stupider. Most of the time I'll just ignore the crap...(dont feed the trolls) and I realize the irony of using a blog to criticize another blog but this was just too much.

There is a sports blogger in Wisconsin who seriously suggested yesterday that Bo Ryan needs to be fired and the Badgers need to bring in a coach that can do a better job of handling good players. His premise was that Ryan's predictable offense and defensive schemes are holding back greyhounds like like Sam Dekker, Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig and that they would have been better off going to a different school. That Ryan can only recruit "blue collar" type players and that they can function under his program but that there is a definite ceiling as to how good any Badger team can be.

I realize that young bloggers and reporters are much more susceptible to the 'what have you done for me lately"syndrome. As children of the computer and video game age...they have the attention span of a flea and the need for instant gratification is constant.

Take some advice from an old guy...take a deep breath, step back and examine Bo Ryans body of work (and look up what Wisconsin basketball was before he and Dick Bennett changed the program)...and then take a look at how good the rest of the Big Ten is...there really should be no shock that the Badgers came back to the pack a bit...the other teams are pretty good too...

This internet theme of everything has to be the best or worst and there is no middle ground is one of the bad things we have to deal with in this partisn information age...but we dont have to encourage it.

The Bucks got a rare win last night as Brandon Knight hit a 3 with a couple of seconds left. They play in Denver Wednesday night.

I'll be in Minoqua tonight for hoops as Wausau East takes on the Lakeland T-Birds as the second game of our doubleheader after the DCE-Marshfield game.
