Three Kickers? Really??

by Tom King

The Green Bay Packers had three kickers on the field yesterday. Mike McCarthy was asked why and snorted that "there is a job available and someone needs to jump through the door and take it. That hasnt happened yet".

The newest Packer was free agent Zach Ramirez and his tryout went so well that the team signed him for at least this week. He was 10-11 matching Mason Crosby. Giorgio Tavecchio was 9-11.

Can you remember a season when the Packers had three kickers in camp the final week of the pre-season with really no idea who the guy was going to be? I cant either.

The team also released Graham Harrell after another disappointing performance on Friday night. Will it be Vince Young or BJ Coleman? Who would you rather see on the field if Rodgers goes down?

The Badgers open the season on Saturday and we still don't know who the starting QB is. Hopefully the coaches know.

The first Friday of high school football is in the books. Wausau East's passing attack looked good in their loss at Rapids but the run defense needs some work. Rapids had that option attack clicking and Ryan Duxbury is going to be a load if he stays healthy. He had over 260 yards on the ground.

West put forth a stellar defensive effort with a 10-9 win over Marshfield and Spash shutdown DC Everest. West plays Stevens Point on Thursday night at Thom Field and East hosts Marshfield and DCE hosts Rapids on Friday night.

How bout Marco Estrada yesterday? Seven innings, 1 hit, no runs, 9 strikeouts and 2 walks. The Brewers have won 3 of their last 5 and play in Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to former Brewer Rollie Fingers who turns 67 today

Songs of The Day  (from my I-pod) Gene Simmons turns 64 and Elvis Costello is 59.
