Is The NFL A "Hog"?

by Tom King

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is no stranger to controversy. he has to be the most fined owner in NBA history as he has found fault with the refs...the league office & commissioner and other owners on a regular basis. Now he appears to want to take on the sports supremacy of the NFL. Cuban suggested over the weekend and yesterday the the NFL's days of being the top dog are numbered for a variety of reasons. There is the injury and concussion problem which the league says it want to handle while at the same time pusing for more games and shorter turnarounds between games. There is the problem of player behavior off the field...a litany of criminal behavior, boorish behavior and conspicuius consumption. And there is the apparant greed factor of everyone involved led by the Commissioner Roger Goodell. Cuban uses a Wall Street term to describe it...Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered and thinks the NFL is at the hog stage trying to milk every last penny out of both sponsors and fans with no regard for how that plays with a general public fed up with being gouged...even for a product they like. He says "It's the same thing I tell my businesses' and would tell every business. You shouldnt try to get every last second of a person attention or every last penny that you can squeeze from them" " There is a big difference between optimizing the relationship you have with your customers and maximising short term revenue." 'Customers/Fans/Advertisers know   when they are being pushed and squeezed and it always ends up costing the business in the end.  He's not the first person to suggest these things but he certainly has the background to know more about this than the average pundit.
